The family of Joseph Owino Myles, a freelance journalist, is calling on human rights and civil liberties organizations to intervene and demand accountability following his mysterious death in Naivasha, where his body was discovered badly bruised and bearing visible signs of torture.

Myles, who had been investigating stories in the region, had confided in friends and close associates in the days before his death that his life was under threat. Those close to him say his warnings were specific and urgent — yet went unheeded by authorities.

He was last seen alive at a restaurant in Naivasha, seated in the company of an unidentified woman. Shortly after, he vanished. What followed has left his family shattered and demanding answers.

“We want to know who did this and why,” a family member said. “Joseph told people his life was in danger. Now he is gone, and no one is being held responsible.”

The family is now urging organizations including Amnesty International and the Kenya Human Rights Commission to take up the case, fearing that without external pressure, justice for Myles will never materialize.

His death has sent a chilling message through Kenya’s journalism community, where threats against reporters — particularly those covering sensitive stories — remain dangerously common.
